A Trinidadian expert in the operation of cranes has joined the Ministry of Labour’s Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) team to investigate the workplace fatality at Tepui Group Inc and provide recommendations.
Minister of Labour, Joseph Hamilton made this disclosure to Stabroek News on Tuesday. Hamilton said that the incident involving the crane was the first of its kind, hence the reason why the expert was contacted to assist with the investigation.
In October, Shawn Joseph, a 44-year-old crane operator was crushed to death after he jumped from a crane as it toppled while planting piles at a construction site at Providence, East Bank Demerara.
The accident occurred at Lot 49 Parker Street, Providence, East Bank Demerara. Investigations have so far revealed that the Tepui Group has been contracted to build a wharf at the location.
