Keon David appeared before Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday where he was charged with the capital offence of murder.
David was not required to plead to the charge.
It was alleged that on July 29, 2019 at Seeta’s Bar in Station Street, Kitty, Georgetown, he murdered Kurt Duncan.
Back in September of 2023, police issued a wanted bulletin for David in connection with the case.
The prosecutor told the court that on the night in question, David and Duncan, who are known to each other, were at Seeta’s Bar when a male and female who were also at the bar had a misunderstanding. Duncan upon noticing this intervened and this led to David punching him several times in the face. He then drew a small black handgun from his waist and discharged a round at Duncan which struck him in the chest. The man collapsed and David fled the scene.
The police were summoned and found Duncan in an unconscious state. They rushed him to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Another wanted bulletin for David was issued on January 16, and acting on information received, ranks attended a location at Soesdyke back road, East Bank Demerara where they contacted the wanted man. He was told of the offence, cautioned, and arrested.
David’s attorney requested a paper committal and the magistrate concurred.
Bail was denied and he was remanded to prison.
His next scheduled court appearance will be on February 9 for statements.
