Middle order batsman Kevlon Anderson spanked an attractive century for Adams’ XI while Steven Sankar snared a 6-fer on Nandu’s XI behalf as the Guyana Harpy Eagles 4-Day trial match finished with Nandu’s XI winning by six wickets at the Meten-Meer-Zorg Community Ground yesterday.
Despite a persistent spell of rain which ruled out two days of play, both sides, Matthew Nandu’s XI and Antony Adams’ XI got some much needed time in the middle.
Adams’ XI posted 232 all out in their second innings, a big improvement on their 144 all out in the first innings. The 232 was fueled by Anderson’s ton. The middle-order batsman stroked an impressive 122 with support coming from Akshaya Persaud (28), Rivaldo Phillips (27) and Rampertab Ramnauth (20).
Meanwhile spinner Steven Sankar kept up his admirable bowling form, snaring 6-52 while speedster Niall Smith returned 2-52.
Adams XI bowlers then put up a brave fight but it was not enough as their opponents chased down 142 with six wickets to spare, as Raymon Perez’s good form continued with a mature 76 not out leading his side to win.
Youngster Shamar Yearwood (19) was the next best scorer as skipper Adams led the bowling for his team with returns of 2-13, while a few of his men grabbed a wicket each during their turn with the ball to finish tamely.
