Twenty-two-year old Keon Narine of 117 Caesar Street, Agricola appeared before Magistrate Dylon Bess at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday charged with robbery and possession of a firearm and ammunition.
It was alleged that on December 22, 2023, Narine while on Middle Street, McDoom and armed with a gun, robbed Ivan Hutson of two gold chains valued $300,000. It was also alleged that on January 16, 2024, while at 117 Caesar Street, Agricola he had in his possession one 9MM pistol and one round of 9MM ammunition without being the holder of firearm licence. Narine pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Narine was represented by attorney-at-law Paul Fung-a-Fat who told the magistrate that his client was sitting on a bridge with three others and that the gun was found next to him on the bridge but not in his possession. In relation to the robbery, Fung-a-Fat stated that his client’s father and the complainant had come to an agreement to settle the matter. Fung-a-Fat also asked for bail to be granted in a reasonable sum.
However, the prosecution objected to bail, citing Narine’s admitting to the charges in a confession, and that the Police were in possession of CCTV footage which showed him with the gun in his possession. Magistrate Bess requested that the complainant and Narine’s father bring the agreement with some form of legal underpinning to ensure the settlement. Magistrate Bess granted Narine bail in the sum of $350,000. His next court appearance will be on February 13 2024
