Several prison officers stationed at the Mazaruni Prison have completed training in Emergency Response. Director of Prisons, Nicklon Elliot said the training course is essential to ensure the fulfilment of the service’s mandate with regards to public safety and managing incidents within the prison. Deputy Director of Prisons, Kevin Pilgrim who is tasked with the responsibility for officers’ training said that with the tactical and firearms training coupled with the restraining techniques and understanding the geographical environment, the officers are now better equipped to manage high-risk inmates and deal with emergencies in the prison. This Guyana Prison Service photo shows some of the officers in training.
