Nineteen-year-old Justin Oliveira appeared yesterday before Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court where he was charged with armed robbery.
It is alleged that on January 22, while at the Georgetown seawall, Oliveira in the company of two others and armed with a knife, robbed Raul Fiedtkou of $15,000 cash and one Samsung cellular phone valued $30,000.
Oliveira pleaded not guilty to the charge.
It is alleged that he also robbed John Satnarine of one Samsung cellular phone valued $30,000, to which he pleaded guilty.
The prosecutor told the court that on the day in question at around 12.30 hours, Satnarine and Fiedtkou were both at the seawall in the vicinity of the roundabout awaiting transportation. They were approached by the accused and two others who were armed with knives and demanded that they hand over their valuables.
A scuffle ensued and Fiedtkou and Satnarine were relieved of their valuables and left with injuries about their bodies.
The police were alerted and Oliveira was apprehended while the other two suspects managed to escape.
A search was conducted on Oliveira and the cellphone belonging to Satnarine along with a knife were recovered. He admitted to the offence while under caution.
Fiedtkou was admitted to the hospital for his wounds while Satnarine was treated and sent away.
Magistrate Isaacs-Marcus refused bail and requested that a full probation report be submitted to the court.
Oliveira’s next scheduled court appearance is on February 14.
