Minister of Health, Dr Frank Anthony, accompanied by the Chairman of Region Six David Armogan, yesterday commissioned a newly constructed Health Post at Schepmoed in Region Six (East Berbice – Corentyne).
A release from the ministry said that the health facility which cost approximately $20.3m, is expected to benefit over 150 residents within the community and its surrounding areas.
The newly established health facility is fully equipped and staffed and will provide services such as Adolescent health, family planning, and outpatient services among others.
“We are very pleased as a Government to be able to fulfil the promises made in building a health post here in Schepmoed and the reason being is that we would like to extend Primary Health Care Service to all communities across Guyana”, Anthony said.
Regional Health Office (RHO), Dr Vishalya Sharma, in her remarks stated that the Schepmoed Heath Post is just a part of upgrading the healthcare system in the region.
“This facility is just part of the straightening of the primary health care sector that has been taking place in your community as well as the region” Dr Sharma said.
Also in attendance were, Regional Executive Officer Narindra Persaud and other officials.
