Dear Editor,
On the very day that my opinion regarding the timeframe to get a service from GWI was published in Stabroek News, the applicant received a call at around 10:56 am, informing her that she should visit the office to make payments for the service, and during the conversation, she was asked if it was she who wrote the piece in the Stabroek News. The applicant visited the office to make payment, and incredibly, she was informed that in order for her to receive the service, she was supposed to have a structure on the land first. When asked where would she get the water to do the construction, the topic switched, and she was again informed that within 14 working days, the water would be connected. Incredibly, the very next day, the service was connected on the lot.
Editor, I maintain that regardless of whatever service/business anyone is conducting within Guyana, the system is set in such a way that if you don’t know someone or ‘grease’ anyone’s hand, you endure a frustrating time to get a legitimate service. As a result of that crooked time- wasting system, work halted, workers have to wait home without pay until system are in place. In general, thanks GWI for the quick response, management should consider revisiting the policies and put systems in place to avoid embarrassment. Cause it’s definitely hampering productivity.
Yours faithfully,
Sahadeo Bates
