Friendship All-Stars, Swan FC, Fruta Conquerors and Santos all booked their passage to the semi-finals of the NSC/EBFA/Ralph Green Under-11 League with victories in quarter-final fixtures on Saturday at the Agricola Ground.
Fruta Conquerors had a goal-laden 6-1 win over Eagles FC of Stewartville, West Demerara, while Friendship All Stars had a contrasting 1-0 surprise win over the previously undefeated Kick Start Academy of Den Amstel.
Fruta’s Dane Vancooten netted a match-haul of five goals while the other was scored by Dontey Kowlessar with the Eagles’ consolation goal coming through an own goal by Vancooten.
Friendship had earlier qualified for the knockouts by virtue of being the second-best team from Group A, behind winners, Santos, while the Den Amstel outfit were peerless in topping Group B.
In their three wins during the group stage, Kick Start netted over 10 goals, but on Saturday, they went goalless with some stalwart defence by the Friendship backline.
With regulation time almost up, Friendship’s Shameer Azeem had other ideas and squeezed a long range effort from outside the box into the back of Kick Start’s net to shock the Den Amstel-based team in the 29th minute.
Meanwhile, Pouderoyen went down 2-0 to Santos FC through goals either side of halftime from Aron Vasconcellos and Malachi Alleyne.
Swan FC based on the Linden/Soesdyke Highway continued their unbeaten streak with another impressive win, dispatching Vengy FC, 5-0. Eleon James and Stephon Singh scored a double apiece while Kevon Charles found the back of the net once.
The semi-finalists will now turn their attention to their respective matches which are slated for Saturday at the Agricola Ground.
