The Guyana Water Inc (GWI) says it has taken action to improve water supply in Kamarang, Region Seven.
It was responding to concerns raised by Opposition MP Dawn Hastings-Williams during the debate on the budget. GWI said that Kamarang and other communities receive water from a well that was drilled in 2022.
Unfortunately, the recent El Nino phenomenon led to a depletion in the well’s output, resulting in low service to the hospital, police station, and the community as a whole. However, GWI took immediate action and conducted an extended development of the well. As a result, the community is now receiving an adequate water supply.
To further enhance the water supply system, another well will be drilled in Kamarang under the 2024 budgetary allocation, GWI said. This additional well will not only provide redundancy in the water supply but also increase the overall capacity of the system.
Further, the Basic Needs Trust Fund will be installing a water system in Warwatta this year.
