On a night highlighted by several drawn encounters, Family, Timehri, and California Square recorded hard-fought wins when the ‘Georgetown versus the Rest’ street-ball championship continued on Tuesday evening at the Back Circle Tarmac in East Ruimveldt.
Family upset Gold is Money 1-0. Kester Alleyne recorded the only conversion of the match from the penalty mark after their opponent had accumulated three fouls.
Likewise, Timehri downed the Footsteppers 1-0. Tyrese Primo separated the two teams as he found the back of the net in the second half.
Also recording an identical result was California Square, who defeated Team Cruel of Beterverwagting. Gerry Burnette etched his name on the scorer’s sheet.
Meanwhile, North East La Penitence and Unstoppables played to a 1-1 stalemate. Jamal McPherson scored for Unstoppable, while Akil Plass equalised for North East La Penitence.
In other results, Red Forde and Festival City played a scoreless affair, while Stabroek Ballers and Sophia contested a 0-0 stalemate. Also, Five O and Sparta Boss battled to a scoreless draw.
The winner of the event, which continues today at the same venue with another round of group stage encounters, will pocket $400,000 and the championship trophy. The second, third, and fourth-place finishers will walk away with $200,000, $100,000, and $50,000, respectively. On the individual side, the eventual Most Valuable Player (MVP) will ride away with a motorcycle.
