Air defence capacity among areas discussed with US Major General

Guyana’s air defence capacity was among areas discussed with a visiting US Air Force Major General.

The US Embassy said in a statement that Major General Evan Pettus, the 12th Air Force (Air Forces Southern) met on Friday with Guyana’s Prime Minister,  Mark Phillips, National Security Advisor  Gerry Gouveia, and Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Chief of Staff Brigadier Omar Khan to discuss areas of mutual interest building on the U.S.-Guyana security partnership.

The U.S.-Guyana partnership focuses on a range of areas including countering transnational criminal organizations, maritime security, disaster preparedness, humanitarian assistance, and human rights, the statement said, adding that the  United States is committed to working with its partners to advance a secure and prosperous Guyana and region.
