Experienced batsman Christopher Barnwell recorded an unbeaten 155 as the GCA Panthers thrashed the West Demerara Panthers by 84 runs yesterday to win the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB)/Precision Services Inter-Association Senior T20 Championship.
The setting of Barnwellโs innings was his home ground of the Demerara Cricket Club in Queenstown, as the former West Indies all-rounder recorded his highest T20 score from a mere 65 deliveries, which included 13x6s, five of which occurred in one over, and 11x4s to propel the GCA Panthers to an imposing 240-1.
Assisting with an impressive and unbeaten 74 [5x6s, 4x4s] from 46 balls was Raymon Perez. The dup added 232 runs from just 105 balls following the dismissal of Shemroy Barrington.
In response, West Demerara ended at 156โ9. Mahendra Dhanpaul scored the most with 47 runs, while Ushadeva Balgobin was the next best scorer with 39 runs. Adding 18 and 14 runs were Navindra Persaud and West Demerara captain Richie Looknauth.
Spinners Dwain Dick (2-20), Devon Lord (2-32), and Steven Sankar (2-32) stifled the West Demerara response, while pacers Ronaldo Alimohamed and Carlos Larose snared one wicket each.
