A petition has been lodged for the winding up of Troy Resources Guyana Inc (TRGI).
According to a notice in the February 3rd edition of the Guyana Chronicle, a petition by Nigel Bacchus et al, creditors of the company, was on January 11th presented to the High Court.
The petition is to be heard on February 21st , 2024 at 9.15 am. The notice said that any creditor of the said company desirous of opposing the winding up of the company under the Companies Act should appear at the hearing or be represented by counsel.
The notice was issued by Cameron and Shepherd, attorney-at-law for the petitioners.
Troy Resources Limited, the Australian parent company of TRGI, abandoned its large scale mining operations last year leaving large debts including to the Guyana Revenue Authority. The government here has taken flak for allowing a large-scale operator to simply abandon its mine at Karouni in that manner.
Land that Troy was in control of has been assigned to small miners. The government is also trying to recoup outstanding amounts by liquidating assets that Troy might have had here.
