A Corentyne man was yesterday remanded to prison after he was charged with the brutal murders of the two men he brutally and fatally chopped late Friday evening.
Devon Stanley yesterday appeared at the Mibicuri Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Peter Hugh where he was read the indictable charge of murder.
Stanley also known as ‘Sawo’, 32, a cane harvester of Lot 64 Ulverston Village, Corentyne, was charged that between Friday, February, 2, and Saturday, February, 3 at Alness Village, Corentyne, he murdered Floyd Moore also known as Kinga and Quacy LaRose.
Prosecutor Collin Clarke yesterday told the court that the case file was incomplete with the deceased men post mortem examination outstanding.
An unrepresented Stanley was not required to enter a plea and was remanded to prison.
He will return to the Whim Magistrate’s Court on February, 22.
Stabroek News previously reported that the incident happened just after 11 pm at Lot 77 Alness Village, Corentyne where Moore’s stepdaughter, whom he shared a close relationship with, resided.
Relatives had said that Moore would provide money for his stepdaughter to cook daily meals for him, and La Rose resided in the lower flat of the premises at the location.
Stabroek News was told that on Friday evening, Moore arrived at the location where he discovered the woman and the accused in bed which then led to a fight.
Residents said that the suspect then armed himself with a cutlass chopping Moore on his neck and head.
However, LaRose attempted to intervene and rescue Moore but the accused in a fit of rage then turned his attention to LaRose.
Eyewitnesses relayed that in an effort to make an escape LaRose ran into a nearby vacant lot, however, the accused chased after him.
LaRose was also chopped about his body in the vacant lot.
Both men were taken to the Port Mourant Hospital where they were pronounced dead on arrival.
Following post-mortem examinations, Moore’s cause of death was given as shock and hemorrhage and incised wound to the neck, while LaRose’s cause of death was given as shock and hemorrhage and multiple incised wounds.
