Sasenarine Singh, the CEO of GuySuCo yesterday on his Facebook page pledged to ensure that the control room at the Albion Sugar Estate which was damaged by a fire on Saturday morning is fixed promptly.
While on the official front GuySuCo has remained silent on the matter, Singh posted on social media that he spent Sunday with engineers working on it.
He said, “Yes, it will be fixed and we shall grind earlier than they think.”
Stabroek News previously reported that the fire, suspected to be electrical in origin, occurred on Saturday morning, and quickly spread throughout the control room at the Albion Estate before it was eventually put out.
In the process the fire destroyed and damaged specialized pieces of equipment reportedly costing over $50m.
In order to ensure the Albion Estate stays on course with the other estates countrywide, which are expected to commence grinding in the first week of March, Stabroek News was told that emergency purchasing of the equipment which was damaged will have to be carried out.
Sources had said that the estate would be unable to operate without the control room in working condition.
