Man found with tear gas canister remanded to prison

Trevon Stuart

A twenty-one-year-old man of Lot 690 Kuru Kuru, Soesdyke-Linden Highway, was arraigned before Magistrate Rhondel Weever at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on Monday, charged with illegal possession of a tear gas canister.

It is alleged that on February 3, 2024, at Croal Street, Georgetown, Trevon Stuart had in his possession one tear gas canister without being the holder of the requisite permit.

The prosecution objected to bail citing the nature and gravity of the offence and told the court that the police observed Stuart behaving in a suspicious manner which prompted them to carry out a search. It was during the search that the canister was found in his bag. Stuart, according to the prosecutor, told investigators that he had found the object some two years ago in Albouystown and he took it to Linden.

When asked if he would like to say anything in response to the prosecutor, Stuart responded “No”. He was refused bail and the matter was adjourned to March 4, 2024, for Statements and Fixture.
