Lodge All-Stars, Gold is Money, Sparta Boss, and North East La Penitence secured quarterfinal berths when the ‘Georgetown versus the Rest’ street-ball championship continued on Tuesday evening at the Back Circle tarmac in East Ruimveldt.

Lodge All-Stars thrashed LA Ballers 3-0. The trio of Chris Witter, Trevon Calendar, and Carl Higgins found the back of the net in the fourth, 14th, and 25th minutes apiece.

Gold is money-edged, unstoppable 1-0. Michael Oie recorded the only conversion in the contest, slamming the ball into the back of the net in the third minute from the left side of the field.

North East La Penitence edged Gunners 3-2 on sudden death penalty kicks after full time ended 2-2. Prior to the aforesaid conclusion, Raheem Cush opened the scoring in the 14th minute, stabbing home from outside the left of the penalty area following a 2-1 counterattack.

However, the lead proved to be short-lived, as Lennox Cort restored parity to proceedings in the 19th, cutting in from the right side before curling the ball into the left corner.

Sparta Boss squeaked past Festival City 1-0. Darren Niles found the back of the net in the 13th minute. The event continues tomorrow at the same venue with the second segment of the round of 16 sections.

The winner of the event will pocket $400,000 and the championship trophy, while the second, third, and fourth-place finishers will walk away with $200,000, $100,000, and $50,000, respectively. On the individual side, the eventual Most Valuable Player (MVP) will ride away with a motorcycle.

Meanwhile, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) has thrown its financial support behind the competition. Commissioner of Police Clifton Hickens (Ag) commended the tournament organisers for the staging of the community initiative, noting that the event creates an avenue for togetherness amongst the competing teams and communities, which ultimately leads to a safer environment.

The commissioner also donated complete playing apparel to Back Circle, which will be used during this competition and for other events.
