The police yesterday said that on Monday a man jumped off his motorcycle on the Ituni Trail and abandoned around 34 lbs of suspected ganja.
In a release, the police said that two ranks in Regional Division #10 were performing traffic duty in a force vehicle along the Ituni Trail at around 1.30 pm when they saw a man approaching from the eastern direction on an XR motorcycle without a registration number. He was carrying a haversack on his back and two bulky parcels, one in front of him and the other behind him.
Upon seeing the ranks, the release said that the man dropped the parcels, jumped off the motorcycle and escaped into the nearby bushes. The ranks took possession of the motorcycle along with the two parcels and the haversack and escorted same to the Mackenzie Police Station.
The two bulky parcels were wrapped with transparent plastic on the outside and black plastic on the inside. One of the parcels was in a brown rice bag. Both parcels were opened and were found to contain leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis which, when weighed, amounted to 34 lbs, which is equivalent to 15.422 kilogrammes.
The haversack was found to contain some mechanical tools and wet clothing. The suspected cannabis was photographed, marked, sealed and lodged, along with the motorcycle and the haversack.
Investigations continue.
