Shamrock, Canal, and Cornelia Ida (CI) recorded lopsided wins when the ‘Jits and Neelam’ 40-over Cricket Championship continued on Sunday.
At the Zeeburg ground, Shamrock Cricket Club defeated the hosts by five wickets. Batting first, the home side was bundled out for 125 in 18.2 overs. Malcolm Hubbard top scored with 48 runs (7x6s), while Arshad Azim chipped in with 29 runs, and Keon Roberts and Khandaiya Ramkarran bagged four wicket hauls. Ramkarran recorded 4-11, while Roberts tallied 4-19. In reply, Shamrock overhauled the total in 20.4 overs, finishing at 128/5. Trevaine Mohabir led the chase with 40 runs (6x4s, 1×6) while Deon Roberts and Omar Shakoor added 27 and 22 runs each.
At the Canal Sports Club ground, the hosts thrashed newcomer VNS Cricket Club by nine wickets. Batting first, the visitors were dismissed for 50 in 16.1 overs. Off-spinner Ganesh Lall recorded figures of 5-10 in 4.1 overs, while Yogendra Singh supported with 2-15.
In reply, Canal Sports Club stormed to 51/1 in 3.2 overs. Extras top scored for the hosts with 29, while Duane Graham was undefeated with 14 runs.
At the Meten-Meer-Zorg Community Centre ground, CI defeated Windsor Forest by four wickets. Batting first, Windsor Forest was bundled out for 133 in 32.1 overs. Sachin Balgobin scored the most with 19 runs, while Deoram Chanderbir, Chetram Nauth, and Kishawn Tracy scored 17, 17, and 16 runs apiece.
Bowling for CI, Aryan Persaud recorded impressive figures of 4-17, while Thaddeus Lovell supported with 3-16. In reply, CI raced to 134/6 in 28.1 overs. Shahid Vieira led the way with 35 runs (6x4s, 1×6), while Naveed Ali supported with 25 runs (2x6s). Persaud also contributed 19 runs in an unbeaten inning.
For the bowlers, Chanderbir snared 3-37 in eight overs. In another result, Rising Star defeated All Youths at Belle Vue. The event continues on Sunday at several venues.
