Guyana’s National Road Race Champion Briton John will look to defend his Beacon Cafe Road Race title today when the Kaieteur Attack Racing Cycle Club (KARCC) event pedals off at 7am.
The event, which is sponsored by Beacon Café, will follow a rolling start format and will pedal off from the Beacon Cafe on Carmichael Street in Georgetown. The race route will take cyclists south onto Church Street, then west towards Main Street, and north on Main Street.
From there, cyclists will head east onto Carifesta Avenue for the official start of the race before continuing on the Rupert Craig Highway onto the East Coast Demerara public road all the way to Belfield.
The return route will take cyclists back along the East Coast Demerara public road, onto the Rupert Craig Highway, and into Sheriff Street, with the race concluding at the Sheriff Medical Facility. The organisers are advising cyclists that the registration fee for the event is $2,000.
The race will feature enthralling competition across various categories, including elite, masters 35+, masters 50+, juniors, juveniles, women, and mountain bikes. Prizes will be up for grabs, with the top finishers receiving said prizes.
As is mandatory, all participants are required to wear helmets and are advised to adhere to all safety protocols. According to KARCC, a designated medical team will be present throughout the race to ensure the well-being of all participants.
The club is urging fans to come out and support the cyclists along the race course. While the race will be held today, the presentation ceremony will be done on Tuesday (February 13) at the Beacons Cafe on Carmichael Avenue at 10am.
