Lady Jaguars senior women’s head coach Omar Khan has selected a 23-member roster for their CONCACAF W Gold Cup preliminary clash against the Dominican Republic on February 17th in the United States, with two locally based players making the cut.
This was confirmed by a release from the Guyana Football Federation (GFF). According to the correspondence, the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) duo of Jalade Trim and Sandra Johnson have been selected and will aim to contribute against the Dominican Republic at the Dignity Health Sports Park Track and Field Stadium in Los Angeles.
Khan said, “We have a young team. It’s a great team to work with; there are a lot of enthusiastic ladies who give everything.”
Meanwhile, the other members of the team are: goalkeepers Chante’ Sandiford, Raven Edwards-Doddall, and Aneesa O’Brien; defenders Anya Tribune, Anika Sproxton, Kristen Bettencourt, Rylee Traicoff, Sydney Cummings, and Heike Clarke; midfielders Stefanie Kouzas, Brianne Desa, Jalade Trim, newcomer Hope Windebank, Hannah Baptiste, Sandra Johnson, and Samantha Banfield; and forwards Otesha Charles, Shanice Alfred, Annalisa Vincent, Jenea Knight, Lakeisha Pearson, Neema Liverpool, and Dylana Makarowski.
Khan explained, “The main thing is to get a good team on the pitch. Good team-building. I think the biggest aim for success will be getting a team that’s prepared; they know what they have to do in every part of the game, when we have the ball and when we don’t have the ball. Those are the key elements.”
He further added that the qualification will serve as an excellent promotion of the women’s game in Guyana.
Meanwhile, GFF President Wayne Force stated that the team possesses the necessary talent to achieve their objective, which is to advance to the group round, and urged all Guyanese to support the team.
