Pouderoyen captured the West Demerara Football Association Pre-Season Championship, defeating Crane Rovers 3-0 on Friday evening at the National Track and Field Centre, Leonora.
Stephon Jupiter broke the deadlock in the 11th minute, latching onto a through pass emanating from the midfield area before slotting the ball into the right-hand corner past the advancing goalkeeper inside the penalty area.
A 2-0 score was then realised in the 32nd minute as Matthew Chidume found the back of the net. Rising above his marker to latch onto a cross from the left side, Chidume directed his header into the left corner of the net.
The score remained unchanged heading into the halftime interval. Upon the resumption, the final conversion occurred in the 63rd minute as Chidume etched his name on the scorer’s sheet once to complete his double.
Sprinting away from his marker to latch onto a lobbed through pass, Chidume slammed his effort past the onrushing goalkeeper into the left corner of the net.
Further misery was heaped on the Crane unit as Donford Williams was issued a red card in the 74th minute for a wild challenge on Keron Boyce.
Pouderoyen coach Travis Bess, during a post-match comment, said, “Pouderoyen would have dominated the match from start to finish. It’s the best that I have seen the team play this season. This is despite them being wasteful in front of the goal because, for the most part, I like what I see. Overall, it’s good, and I saw what I wanted. It’s a good win.”
He further stated that the club will use this success as a stepping stone in their pursuit of further titles within the West Demerara jurisdiction.
