Industrial Ali calls on striking teachers to be patient: In his first public comment on the five-day-old teachers strike, President Irfaan Ali last Friday called for patience as he says he has promised incremental benefits but he was silent on why his government has not entered collective bargaining with the GTU over the last three and a half years.

Upping the ante in the GTU strike which entered its second week, the ministries of education and local government and regional development today said that those teachers who have been absent without excuse  will not be paid and that this will be reflected in their March salaries.
