Teachers paused to form a prayer chain outside the Port Kaituma School’s Secondary Dormitory on Saturday during a solidarity vigil that they held. This is part of the 10-day GTU teachers’ industrial action which continues today. President Irfaan Ali has said that the government will require time to achieve its plan to make teachers the primary beneficiaries of Guyana’s development and progress. In a live video posted on his Facebook page yesterday afternoon, which did not address the burning issue of collective bargaining, he said the government was “committed” to improving working conditions of all Guyanese, who needed to remain patient and united in the pursuit of shared goals.
