PERTH, Australia, , CMC – West Indies could again have their hands full with Jake Fraser-McGurk, after the 21-year-old was included for his Twenty20 International debut in today’s final game here.
The right-handed Fraser-McGurk made his One-Day International debut in the preceding three-match series against West Indies, playing the last two games and blasting a top score of 41 off 18 deliveries in the finale in Canberra as the hosts chased down 87 for victory.
He will be joined by fellow South Australian Wes Agar, the 27-year-old fast bowler replacing elite pacer Josh Hazlewood who has returned to Sydney to gear up for the imminent series against New Zealand.
Agar, who played two ODIs against the Caribbean side three years ago, is also uncapped in T20 Internationals.
“I said to Jason Gillespie (South Australia coach), ‘I want to be a three-format player for Australia later in my career’. That’s my goal, I’m working towards that,” Fraser-McGurk said after spearheading his side’s win in Canberra.
Fraser-McGurk arrives in the shortest format with a growing reputation, having gathered 257 runs for Melbourne Renegades in the recent Big Bash at a strike-rate of 158.64.
Agar, meanwhile, was also a standout for Adelaide Strikers in the 2022-23 Big Bah, snaring 18 wickets, even though he was limited to four games last season.
West Indies are down 2-0 in the three-match series after losing the opener in Hobart by 11 runs and following up with a 34-run defeat in the second game in Adelaide.
