The Guyana Telephone and Telegraph (GTT) has announced the upgrading of its high-speed Fibre internet with no added cost.

GTT Commercial Director, George Scott, said yesterday at an event at the Marriott Hotel  that over eight years ago, GTT was the first to introduce Fibre high-speed internet to Guyana with a promise to deliver their service to 75% of homes by the end of 2025.

Scott said that the company embarked on a project to make Fibre accessible to more than 158,000 households in mid last year and presently, two in every three homes can now have access to the high-speed Fibre internet. More than 40,000 households are expected to benefit from the massive upgrade while some customers will receive a new WiFi device to facilitate the upgrade which aims at improving services for those who work remotely and improve the online learning experience.

“Today, I’m very happy to tell you that effective immediately, our customers will enjoy a boost in their speeds from 33% to as much as 100% and the great news about this, no extra cost.”

The company also signed a partnership agreement with rising Guyanese cricketer, Shamar Joseph proclaiming him the brand ambassador of the communications company. In addition to Joseph’s endorsement of the company, GTT Chief Commercial Officer, Kerchelle Jn Charles, said that during the three-year partnership, the Guyanese cricketer will collaborate with the company to support his village by providing school necessities such as books and uniforms for children and cricket equipment.

According to Charles, a GTT team journeyed to Baracara Village and as a part of the company’s commitment to support the growth and development of communities across the country, steps were taken to enhance the connectivity in Baracara. Through partnership with WANSAT, internet service was provided to Joseph’s family home as well as the community centre.

“We are into a three-year endorsement partnership with Shamar. We don’t see it as an endorsement, we don’t want him to be our ambassador, it has to be mutual. We also want him to be in his image and likeness. Shamar is young, he is fresh, he is growing, a lot of what Shamar says he wants to do is inspire the youths and our role is to help him do that. We are already doing it as GTT as a company and coupled with Shamar of course we are able to inspire the youths. His endorsement speaks of supporting GTT. He will be working closely with Baracara.”

Joseph meanwhile, said that he was honoured to be representing GTT since he has been a supporter for many years.

Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Richard Stanton, said the company has made massive improvements in service quality and the company’s commitment to raising Fibre internet speed at no extra cost, aims to innovate and strengthen communities.

“This is just the beginning of what we have planned for the journey ahead. Throughout the year our customers can expect more exciting news from us when we continue to push the boundaries of innovation and excellence. We are also happy to have Shamar on the team and we will be working closely with him and his community. Shamar’s speed and accuracy in cricket absolutely aligns with our values of being the fastest and most reliable player in the game.”
