United We Stand Cycling Club’s Briton John, who began the 2024 season atop the podium in last Sunday’s Beacon Cafe Road Race, will look to make it two out of two today when he takes part in the annual Forbes Burnham Memorial Road Race, an event he won last year.
The race, which is sponsored by the Burnham Foundation and organised by the Flying Stars Cycling Club, will pedal off at 2PM today from Carifesta Avenue and will follow the route along the East Coast roadways to Belfield, with all cyclists making a turnaround to finish at the point of origin.
Guyana’s top cyclists will be in heated rivalry across the Elite, Juniors, Veterans 40+ and Veterans 50+ categories respectively.
Four sprint prizes (Primes), will be up for grabs each valued at $2,000.
In addition, prizes will be awarded to the top finishers in each category, with Elite cyclists vying for the top 6 spots and all other categories competing for the top 3 spots.
According to the organisers, registration for the race will be conducted in adherence to the regulations set forth by the Guyana Cycling Federation (GCF).
Last year’s race saw Briton John soloing to the finish line after dropping Romello Crawford and Aaron Newton in a time of one hour, 12 minutes, 38 seconds.
