Demerara skipper and West Indies pacer Cherry-Ann Fraser had an excellent day with the ball yesterday afternoon at the Malteenoes Sports Club Ground, grabbing four wickets as her side dismissed defending champions of the GCB Women’s Inter-County T20 competition, Berbice, for a paltry 34 before chasing it down, albeit with some hiccups to lift this year’s title.
Fraser’s day began perfectly, making the right call at the toss, and inserting Berbice to bat. She, as usual, opened the bowling but did not make an instant impact. However, in the second over, Berbice’s woes began as Cristal Durant (1) was trapped LBW by Nidla Andrews leaving the defending champions on 4/1.
In the third over, the party really started for Fraser with a double strike; first she had Realanna Grimmond LBW for 1 off the first delivery of her over before bowling the dangerous Shabika Gajnabi (1) four deliveries later to leave Berbice in dire straits at 5/3 by the end of the third over.
