A fire of unknown origin, which struck about 2 am yesterday, destroyed a house in Suddie, Region Two, which was owned by Jason Narine.
Despite the efforts of the Anna Regina Fire Service, the entire upper floor of the two-storey home was destroyed.
Narine who was in Georgetown at the time said he received a call from a neighbour about the fire. Narine said that the upper flat had chairs, tables, beds and a kitchen. He said he usually spent time at his home when he was in Region Two.
It was his neighbours who called the fire service, but when they arrived on the scene, they were only able to save the bottom flat.
“I am glad that nothing worse happened. I am shocked over this. My home was very dear to me. I don’t know how this happened,” Narine said.
Neighbours said they were awakened by the cracking sounds of the fire. They said when they peeped out smoke was everywhere. One of them said she became worried that the fire would spread to other houses in the neighbourhood.
The fire department in Region Two is currently investigating the fire.
