Riddim Squad brushed aside Pele 3-1 when the Georgetown Football Association’s (GFA) ‘Black History Month’ Pre-Season Championship continued on Wednesday evening.
Staged at the Georgetown Football Club ground, Bourda. Kester Stewart broke the deadlock in favour of the Mocha-based Riddim Squad outfit through a 15th-minute strike, slotting home after receiving a squared pass inside the penalty area.
However, Pele would respond in the 31st to equalise in the form of Mitchell Dey, who slammed his effort into the right side following a one-on-one situation after racing away from his marker to latch onto a through pass.
Nevertheless, two unanswered goals secured the win for Riddim Squad, as Kacy ‘Bombie’ John and Kelvin Gordon netted. John restored his team’s one-goal advantage in the 33rd minute, dribbling the onrushing goalkeeper inside the penalty area before curling the ball into the net.
Gordon then completed the result in the 73rd minute with a powerful right-foot strike from the top of the box into the roof of the net after running onto a pass.
Meanwhile, Santos and GFC played to a 2-2 stalemate. Wendell Austin opened the scoring for the hosts with a 21st-minute strike. However, Ravi Coates restored parity to proceedings as he found the back of the net in the 29th minute.
The score would remain unchanged heading into the halftime interval. Following the resumption of play, Austin made his presence felt once more, completing his brace in the 51st minute to restore GFC’s lead to 2-1.
Nevertheless, Santos would earn a share of the spoils, as Akil Plass converted from the penalty spot in the 62nd minute. The event continues tomorrow at the same venue with another doubleheader.
