The 54th Republic Anniversary on Thursday featured an all-female Guard of Honour, comprising members from both the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) and the Guyana Police Force.
A release from the GDF said that this ceremonial display took place in the presence of dignitaries, including President Irfaan Ali, Prime Minister Mark Phillips, their spouses, various Ministers of the Government, Members of the Diplomatic Corps, Heads of Services, and other special invitees. The event was held at Parliament Buildings.
Major Renea Peters assumed command of the parade, and Warrant Officer Class One Carlyn Dover held the position of Parade Warrant Officer. The GDF Platoon, under the command of Lieutenant Munirah Reedon and Sergeant Alicia Blackman, stood alongside the GPF platoon, led by Assistant Superintendent Julian Moore and Sergeant Kiticia Pellew, the release said.
A poignant moment unfolded as Lieutenant Tashanna Tang and Lance Corporal Kimberley Leacock of the Guyana Defence Force raised the Golden Arrowhead during the observance.
