West Demerara giant Slingerz FC have appointed Jamaican Alex Thomas as the new head coach ahead of today’s Guyana Football Federation Elite League kick-off.
This was confirmed via a press release from the club. According to the correspondence, Thomas, 41, replaces Charles ‘Lily’ Pollard, who recently tendered his resignation from the Vergenoegen-based outfit.
“Thomas brings a wealth of experience, having previously served as head coach for Jamaica Premier League teams Arnett Gardens FC and Molynes United. In his playing days, Thomas captained Jamaica’s Under-17 team during the 1999 World Cup in New Zealand and was a part of Jamaica’s Under-20 squad that competed in the 2001 U20 Youth World Cup held in Argentina. He also earned one cap for Jamaica’s senior team under Serbian coach Bora Milutinovic during the Lunar Cup in China,” the release stated.
According to the release, Thomas’s appointment aligns with the club’s vision, and they are confident that his tenure will be highlighted by success given his track record.
Thomas will make his debut today in the opening match of the Elite League against Monedderlust at 18:00hrs.
