Reyon Jones, 26, of Lot 1 Mandela Avenue Georgetown appeared before Magistrate Rhondel Weaver at the Georgetown Magistrates Court on Monday last, charged with armed robbery. It is alleged that on November 24, 2023, on D’Urban Street, while armed with a gun, he robbed Kente Meyers of one Samsung cellular phone valued $85,000 and $490,000 cash. Jones pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecution objected to bail citing the likelihood of Jones reappearing in court if bail is granted as very low, as well as the nature and gravity of the offence.
The prosecution also stated that the place of abode given to the investigators and the one given in court were different. The prosecution also said that they are in possession of CCTV footage of the incident along with an oral confession.
Jones, when asked to clarify if what the prosecution said was true, told the magistrate that he lives at Lot 1 Mandela Avenue and that when he was arrested, he was at his girlfriend’s home. He stated that he was not given a chance to give a statement, but that he gave a verbal confession. Jones informed the magistrate that he was assaulted by police on the day of the arrest and that he had requested medical attention but was not given any. Jones was refused bail by Magistrate Weaver and was remanded to prison until March 18, for statements and fixture.
