Two men in separate matters are now awaiting sentencing after both admitting to raping children.
While already in the middle of his trial, Orlan Roberts pleaded guilty to raping a nine-year-old girl back in July of 2022.
Meanwhile, Evon Barker called ‘Baby’ whose case was empanelled two weeks ago and set to commence yesterday morning, changed the not guilty plea he had entered at his arraignment.
When the matter was called yesterday morning, Barker admitted to raping an 11-year-old girl back in February of 2022.
Both offenders will be sentenced later this month by High Court Judge Sandil Kissoon.
The case against Roberts was that on the day in question—July 4th, 2022—he was at the home where the nine-year-old lived and while she was asleep, he sexually penetrated her.
The child’s younger sister who witnessed the assault also testified to the court about what Roberts had done as did the victim who awoke during the act.
Meanwhile, in the case against Barker, a taxi driver, the court heard that he preyed on his 11-year-old victim whom he had dropped to an event.
Later on the day in question, he returned for the child and drove her to a bushy area where he raped her in the back seat of his car.
The sentencings for both offenders have been deferred to first facilitate the presentation of probation and other social impact reports.
The state’s cases were presented by Prosecutor Nafeeza Baig and Latifah Elliot.
