The Guyana Police Force (GPF) overcame Den Amstel 3-0 last evening in the KFC Elite League at the Guyana Football Federation National Training Centre, Providence.
Dorwin George opened the scoring in the 35th minute, which proved to be the only conversion of the first half. Nicholas MacArthur, following the resumption of play, doubled their lead in the 64th minute. The contest was then sealed as Tyrone Delph found the back of the net in the 88th minute.
Wayne ‘Wiggy’ Dover, head coach of GPF, said in a post-match comment, “I think the game started evenly balanced, and then we started to establish dominance through possession, though we were a bit impatient in the buildup and gave up possession.”
He further said, “There was a period where the momentum changed to them, and we had to weather that period. Of course football is about momentum and changes in momentum, and we established control and managed to score three goals and get the win.” The contest concluded with the first round of matches in the competition. The event continues tomorrow at the same venue with another round of matches.
The winner of the tournament will receive $2,000,000, while the second, third, and fourth-place finishers will receive $1,200,000, $800,000, and $500,000, respectively.
