Guyana’s leading cyclist, Briton John of United We Stand, extended his perfect start to the season with his third victory in as many races, taking the top of the podium in the Elite/Open class of the first stage of the Jagan’s Memorial Cycling Road Race yesterday.
The race, which began in Schoonord on the West Bank of Demerara, saw action from the get-go as John broke away with the peloton (the top six finishers included) just two miles into the race. From there on, the peloton journeyed together as a bunch to the turn-back point at Bushy Park, East Bank Essequibo. On the return leg, John made his move.
