Demanding the removal of Four Miles Village Toshao

Dear Editor,

I am a resident of Four Miles, Port Kaituma, Region One and I am an Amerindian. My name is Robert Ignatius. I lived in this village for over 20 years and I am pleading with our President, Irfaan Ali, to fix an issue that has been going on for over a decade now. On Monday, the 28th of August, 2023, President Ali and Minister of Amerindian Affairs, Pauline Sukhai, handed over a land title and map to the Toshao of Four Miles village (Royston Bumburry). However, he was not pleased with it because he did not get the area that they had applied for which is on the main road and is a part of Constituency #3 a Local Authority area.

On his return to the village, he called a village General Meeting, residents came to listen to his report on the conference he attended. He (Royston Bumburry) said a lot of things but he did not say anything about the land title he received, so a resident asked him about (the land title and the map) in which he admitted that he received it. When residents asked him to see the map and the land title he said that if anyone wants to see the land title they have to come to his home.

The residents became angry and demanded to see the land title but he refused the residents and ended the meeting. And on to this day, we the residents have not seen the land title or the map he received. There have been two petitions of removal against this Toshao and no one from the NDC, RDC, OR the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs has visited the village to look in to our issues. We live in a Local Authority area and demand a CDC to be set up in our community. There is a Toshao election coming up soon and we the residents demand that this issue be fixed by President Ali.

Sincerely,

Robert Ignatius
