Ahead of the resumption of the CWI Regional 4-Day Championship, the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) has announced two changes to their Guyana Harpy Eagles 13-man squad.
Fast bowler Nial Smith and middle order batsman Akshaya Persaud will replace all-rounder Neiland Cadogan and spinner Anthony Adams when the Harpy Eagles head into the fourth round of the Championship on March 13.
Smith returns from an injury sustained before the Championship bowled off, while Persaud, interestingly enough, initially declined selection to go to the trials of the Combined Campuses & Colleges (CCC) where he failed to make the cut. He now makes a surprise return to the Guyanese squad.
The Harpy Eagles, who are the defending champions, have endured a torrid start to the tournament, with a no-result, a heavy loss and a win in the three rounds before the break.
According to a release from the GCB, Persaud “will add depth to the team’s batting given his form this year, while his part-time spin could also come in handy”.
Tevin Imlach will resume his role as Captain while middle-order batsman Kevlon Anderson will continue his role as deputy, as the Eagles look to turn their campaign around when action resumes on March 13 against Barbados Pride at the Coolidge cricket ground.
