Scoreless at the end of the first quarter in front of a small audience, the West Demerara outfit secured what proved to be the only conversion of the match in the 68th minute.
Awarded a penalty for a wild challenge inside the 18-yard box, Anthony Benn, who was tasked with the responsibility from a distance, made no mistake as he fired his effort into the back of the net.
With the result, it was the first win for Den Amstel in their second outing, while Santos incurred their second defeat in as many matches.
In the other match, unbeaten outfit Slingerz thrashed Tucville-based giant Fruta Conquerors 4-1. The event continues today at the same venue with a singular encounter. Berbice outfit Monedderlust will lock horns with the Guyana Police Force (GPF) at 19:00 hrs.
The winner of the tournament will receive $2,000,000, while the second, third, and fourth-place finishers will receive $1,200,000, $800,000, and $500,000, respectively.
