A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on key areas of mutual interest was on Friday inked by Chief Co-operatives Development Officer, Janaknauth Panchu, and Commissioner of Forests, Edward Goberdhan, at the Guyana Forestry Commission Office in Kingston, Georgetown.
A release from the Ministry of Labour said that the memorandum was signed in the presence of Regional Co-operatives Development Officer, Winneth Collymore, Assistant Commissioner of Forests, Simone Benn, and European Forest Institute Technical Assistance Project (EFITAP) Project Manager, Rohini Kerrett, as well as representatives from community forestry organisations in Guyana.
Its signing was part of an overarching workshop aimed at assisting communityforestry organisations in the transition to co-operatives, the release added.
This will allow for them to undertake economic endeavours under the Co-operative Societies Act, Chapter 88:01 of the laws of Guyana.
During her presentation at the workshop, Collymore covered the fundamentals of co-operative societies, including roles and responsibilities of co-operative members, shares, and committees of management.
