Daniel Greenidge, an 18-year-old unemployed resident of Budhan’s Housing Scheme, West Canje Berbice was yesterday charged with the wounding of Fay Samaroo, the mother of the Deputy Regional Officer (DREO) of Region Six.
The police said in a statement that Greenidge was arrested on 2024-03-06 and charged yesterday with the unlawful possession of a firearm without licence.
Greenidge appeared yesterday at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Michelle Mathias. The charge was read to him and he pleaded not guilty. He was remanded to prison and the matter was put down for 2024-03-27.
Greenidge was also charged with the unlawful wounding of Samaroo. He was not required to plead to the charge and was placed on $200,000 bail.
The shooting happened on February 27th at Sheet Anchor Public Road, East Canje Berbice. Samaroo, 54, sustained two gunshot wounds. She is the mother of Mary Samaroo, the region’s DREO.
