Priyanna Ramdhani advanced to the quarterfinal section in the women’s singles, while Akili Haynes progressed to the round of 16 segment in the men’s singles when the Cuba International Badmindton Championship commenced yesterday at the Ciudad Deportiva Sport City Hall, La Havana, Cuba.
Ramdhani defeated Ginnet Cuellar Galvez in straight sets 21-10, 21-12 in the Round of 16 section to earn her place in the quarterfinal segment, which will occur today.
In the earlier Round of 32 section, Ramdhani bested Angela Gina Pita Sanchez 21-3, 21-3. Meanwhile, Haynes overcame the Jose Leandro Labrada Soler 15-21, 21-19, 22-20 in the Round of 32 segment to earn his place in the final 16.
Meanwhile, Ramdhani, who teamed up with Chequeda Boulet of Trinidad and Tobago in the women’s doubles, went down to the pair of Taymara Oropesa Pupo (Cuba) and Fabiana Silva (Brazil) 19-21, 13-21 in the Round of 16 section.
Also, Haynes and Ramdhani received a bye to the Round of 16 segment in the Mixed Doubles section.
