Guyana’s ruggers will head into action today as the second edition of the John Lewis Memorial 7s Rugby tournament kicks off at the Rugby Field in the National Park from 11 am.
Four clubs, the Police Falcons, Panthers, GDF and Hornets will all lock horns across 12 matches starting from today and continuing tomorrow from 3 pm. After the 12 round-robin matches, the top two ranked teams will face off in the final tomorrow afternoon at 5:30 pm while the third-placed team will be decided at 5 pm.
The inaugural edition of the tournament was played last year with the Police Falcons emerging victorious. The tournament was birthed in honour of the late Colonel John Lewis, a former President of the Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) who died in April of 2020 following a period of illness.
Lewis was best remembered for his role as an administrator within the game and his selflessness in supporting rugby in Guyana.
