Perennial contenders Back Circle, Albouystown, and North Ruimveldt progressed to the group stage section following elimination victories on Saturday evening in the Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Georgetown edition at the National Park Tarmac in Thomas Lands.
The former champion Back Circle overcame the Stabroek Ballers 1-0. Ravin Naughton recorded the only conversion of the contest in the second period.
On the other hand, two-time losing finalist Albouystown dismissed the Airport Ballers 3-1. Shaka Jones tallied a ‘Guinness Goal’ [a goal scored in the final three minutes of normal time or the final two minutes of extra time counts as two], while the experienced Devon Dooker also etched his name on the scorer’s sheet. For the loser, Jonathan Bailey netted.
Meanwhile, North Ruimveldt brushed aside the Street Ballers 2-0. The experienced Travis Grant and rising star Jaleel Hamilton netted one goal each.
In other results, Make It Happen squeaked past Broad Street 1-0. Daniel Haynes recorded a first-half conversion to seal the eventual win. Also, Sophia B squeaked past California Square 3-2 on penalty kicks after regulation, and extra time ended scoreless.
