Off-spinner Plaffiana Millington wove a web around the Trinidad and Tobago Divas en route to capturing 4-5, setting the foundation for a 7-wicket victory for the Guyanese women in the first round of the CG United Women’s T20 Blaze at Warner Park, Basseterre in St Kitts and Nevis.
Trinidad and Tobago won the toss and elected to bat; however, the Guyanese bowlers had other ideas, as Millington returned figures of 4/5 from 3.3 overs as they knocked over T&T for only 66 runs in 18.3 overs.
Ashmini Munisar (1-11), Cherry-Ann Fraser (1-22), and Sheneta Grimmond (1-8) all chipped in with excellent spells to complement Millington’s performance.
Only Shunelle Shaw (15), Steffi Soogrim (14) and Samara Ramnauth (12) managed to reach double figures for the Divas.
In response, Guyana had no trouble and eased to 67-3 in 11 overs for a big win, with opener Shabika Gajnabi guiding her side home with 24 not out from 2x4s and 31 balls.
Realeanna Grimmond (13) and Captain Shemaine Campbell, who raced to 19 off nine balls with two sixes, also performed creditably.
Meanwhile, Guyana will play the Leeward Islands on Thursday when Round 2 kicks off.
