Minister of Home Affairs, Robeson Benn was in Saxacalli on Sunday where he met with the Joint Services personnel who were tracking prison escapee, Akeem Wong.
The escapee was shot dead later in the day during what the police described as a confrontation.
A release from the Ministry of Home Affairs on Sunday said that Benn met with the Joint Services team to assess progress and strategize the next steps in apprehending Wong.
“His invaluable insights and guidance aim to enhance coordination and effectiveness in the ongoing pursuit.
“The collaborative efforts between law enforcement agencies under Minister Benn’s guidance signify an unwavering commitment to upholding law and order and ensuring the apprehension of individuals who threaten society”, the release said.
It was at Saxacalli on the Essequibo River that Wong was said to have murdered Nellie Gomes and David Gomes on March 8th. Wong escaped from the Mazaruni Prison on February 15th.
