A crash along the Corentyne highway on Sunday evening has left a Number 64 Village, Corentyne pensioner dead and his family demanding answers.
Dead is Jaggat Narine, 66, a retired cane harvester and farmer, of Lot 182 Number 64 Village, Corentyne.
According to the police, the accident occurred on Sunday around 7.20 pm along the 64 Village, Corentyne Public Road, involving motor cycle, CH 7631 which was being operated by Narine and another motorcycle which was being operated by David Rambasdeo, 21, of Lot 14 Johanna North, Black Bush Polder.
The police’s statement yesterday said that initial investigations revealed that Rambasdeo was proceeding south allegedly at a fast rate of speed when Narine reportedly rode out of an access street on to the main road and in the process he collided with Rambasdeo.
“As a result of the collision, both (riders) fell onto the road surface and sustained injuries about their bodies”, the police said yesterday in a statement.
Both men were picked up and taken to the Skeldon Public Hospital where Narine, who was unconscious, was pronounced dead on arrival, while Rambasdeo was admitted with injuries to his head and about his body.
Meanwhile, Narine’s son, Sahadeo Narine, yesterday relayed that he received a phone call that his father had been involved in an accident. “So I hurry go out on the road and I see he lay down there motionless.”
According to the son, they received information that Rambasdeo was struck by a motorcar which sped away, after which his father rode out onto the public road and collided with Rambasdeo.
“It have cameras around there and them saying the cameras not working but the police need to get it because we hear it working and it’s more than one house get cameras… We want to know exactly what happened because only the camera can tell us what happen and how the accident occurred and then we can understand better because nothing we can do now.”
The young man is demanding answers as he called on the police to carry out a thorough investigation.
Rambasdeo relatives yesterday declined to speak with this newspaper noting that the young man was still hospitalized at the time.
