Guyana Harpy Eagles, led by a four-wicket blitz from pacer Isai Thorne, as well as half centuries from Captain Tevin Imlach and Tagenarine Chanderpaul, led the Windward Islands Volcanoes by 363 runs at the end of day two at the Coolidge Cricket Ground, Antigua and Barbuda.
Thorne, who was aided by a three-wicket haul [3-30] from Ronaldo Alimohamed, set the tone for Guyana’s dominance as he engineered the Volcanoes batting collapse, skittling the tournament leaders for a paltry 113 in reply to Guyana’s first-inning total of 308.
Tevyn Walcott and Darel Cyrus recorded the only scores of note with 41 and 23 runs apiece, as Thorne ended with figures of 4-38 in 11 overs.
Guyana then built on their initial lead of 195 to end day two on 168/1. Tevin Imlach and Tagenarine Chanderpaul consolidated Guyana’s position with unbeaten scores of 88 and 78, respectively.
At Sabina Park, Jamaica, the Scorpions lead by 49 runs with six wickets remaining against the Leeward Islands Hurricanes after ending day two on 59/4. Kirk McKenzie remains unbeaten at 24.
The Hurricanes, in replay to Jamaica’s first inning total of 221, were dismissed for 231. Justin Greaves scored the most with 61, while Keacy Carty, Kieran Powell, and Jewel Andrew added 53, 41, and 32 runs, respectively. Peat Salmon was the pick of the bowlers with 5-50, while Ramal Lewis supported with 4-80.
Meanwhile, at the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad and Tobago, the home side, the Red Forde, trailed the Barbados Pride by seven runs after ending day two on 100/3. Kjorn Ottley tallied 39 runs, while Amir Jangoo remains unbeaten at 30.
Barbados, in their first innings, amassed 279 in reply to the home side’s 172 first-inning score. Jonathan Drakes led the way for the Pride with 72 runs, while Zachary McCaskie, Shane Dowrich, Kevin Wickham, Jason Holder, and Kraigg Brathwaite scored 46, 40, 34, 34, and 30 runs apiece.
Continuing in Trinidad and Tobago, the CWI Academy leads the Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC) Marooners by 112 runs after ending day two on 44/1 at the Frank Worrell Field. Kadeem Alleyne scored 32 prior to his dismissal.
The Marooners, in their first inning, were dismissed for 231 in reply to the academy’s initial score of 300. Demario Richards top scored for the Marooners with 59, while Zishan Motara supported with 56. Adding 29 and 25 runs apiece, Sadique Henry and Shamarh Brooks scored 25.
Ashmead Nedd was the pick of the bowlers with 4-51, while Joshua Bishop and Johann Layne snared 2-44 and 2-60, respectively.
