Guyana’s National Men’s Hockey Team suffered their fourth loss of the 2024 Indoor Pan American Cup in Canada last evening, a 10-0 thrashing at the hands of Argentina in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
The Argentinians, perennial challengers for the title, flew into offence from the get-go and only had to wait two minutes to start finding the back of Guyana’s net.
Gaston Rodriguez netted the first of his hat-trick of Field Goals in the second minute before going on to score twice more in the 8th and 12th minutes to hand Argentina an imposing 3-0 lead early in the first half.
Juan Eleicegui piled on more misery just a minute after Rodriguez’ third goal to make it 4-0. He added two more (in the 17th and 39th minutes) while Agustin Ceballos netted twice (16th and 26th minutes) against the hapless Guyanese.
Meanwhile Nehuen Ayala (20th minute) and Joaquin Gonzalez (25th minute) grabbed a goal apiece as the Argentines hardly broke a sweat.
Guyana’s best result in the tournament thus far has been a 3-3 draw with hosts Canada on Wednesday with Arody Branford (two goals) and Jamarj Assanah both on target in that fixture.
Up to press time, the Guyanese had yet to play the USA.
